Traditional Print and Publishing
The Communications Technology curriculum provides students with a foundation of knowledge and technically oriented experiences that include traditional and digital layout and design, publications and press operations including offset duplicators and screen printing.
|
Students begin by learning the traditional print and publishing methods as well as gaining experience in today’s digital age of publishing/printing as well as media arts, photography, and digital animation.
Industry Certification
This is a diverse classroom experience that spans three years with an optional fourth year portfolio class available. At the end of the 3 year program students may take the Adobe Associate Exam to become Industry Certified. Students also have the opportunity to earn college credit and scholarships by enrolling for the full three year course structure.
Portfolios
This year students will be required to create and maintain both a printed and digital portfolio, in which they will keep their best work to use for various purposes. Many universities are now requiring students to present portfolios of their work (in all fields) for admittance purposes. Many employers also are much more likely to hire a potential employee who can show actual examples of their previous work. Finally, and most importantly, many parents have been asking to see examples of their student’s work and progress and this is a great way for them to see just how talented all of our students are in the Communications Technology field.
Bayside Prints
In conjunction to the topics covered in the student’s first year, during their 2nd and 3rd years they take on responsibilities of working in Bayside Prints. Bayside Prints consists of a press facility as well as silk screening, web design, and electronic publishing.
BHS Website
Communications Technology is responsible for the creation and maintenance of the Bayside High School Website (http://www.bayside.brevard.k12.fl.us) The website was created by talented 2nd and 3rd year students and continues to be maintained by them.
I look forward to working with you this year. It is my mission to educate and support my students to allow them to achieve their dreams, to provide a SAFE environment in which to learn, and succeed in Communications Technology. ●
